Originally founded as the Distillerie de Lure, the company was managed by pioneer herbalist Henri Bardouin in the mid-1900s, before the leadership of Alain Robert in 1974. Located in Haute-Provence, between the Alps and the Mediterranean, the region is famous for its rich biodiversity of over 1800 species of medicinal and aromatic plants. Generations of local gatherers and apothecaries have influenced the distillery’s recipes, utilizing centuries-old techniques of manual harvesting, maceration, and wood-fire distillation.

Hand-harvested botanicals and spices are steeped at room temperature in vats using a 30% to 70% alcohol base solution. The method is heavily tailored to the specific ingredient to extract essential oils and complex flavors, from a few hours to months. The infusion is distilled to recover further fragrances, and the master macerator combines these infusions with other distillates, sugar, and alcohol to form their signature aperitifs and liqueurs.
