The distillery traces its origins to 1929, making it a cornerstone of Peruvian rum production with nearly a century of continuous operation. Owned by the Grupo Destilería La Caña, the producer draws on locally grown sugarcane from the fertile coastal valleys surrounding the facility. Known for aging in American, French, and Slovenian oak barrels,  Ron Cartavio’s range includes expressions such as Cartavio Black, Cartavio Solera 12 and the premium Cartavio XO, the latter aged using a solera system to develop depth and consistency.

The technique originated in Andalusian wines and involves blending very old rums with younger ones. The oldest rums in the blend (30 years) “educate” the youngest (10 years). The average age of the blend is then estimated at 18 years.

Cartavio Black

Dark rum with a sweet, aromatic profile. Strong notes of caramel, molasses, coffee, and toasted oak with a fruity, spiced palate. Sweet, oily, and smooth, tropical notes of banana, pineapple, and citrus, alongside woody caramel, toffee, cinnamon, and coffee.

Cartavio Blanco

A smooth, 2-year aged Peruvian white rum with a clear, slightly amber color. Fresh, subtle aromatic notes of citrus, florals, vanilla, and light oak, with a balanced, sweet palate ideal for mixing into cocktails.

Cartavio Selecto Silver 5 yr

Aged 5 years in American, French, and Slovenian oak. A refined aroma of caramel, cream, and tropical fruit. Smooth, dry, and wood-forward taste on the palate, hints of cinnamon and vanilla. Medium-bodied and rich with significant dry oak, tannins, raisins, and pineapple. Strikes a balance between fruitiness and oak.

Cartavio Selecto 5 Yr

Mahogany color and a smooth, rich profile dominated by caramel, toffee, and oak. Intensely aromatic, notes of butter cream, dried fruits, honey, and warm spices. Long, warm, and slightly dry finish leaving cinnamon, cacao, or toasted wood. A balanced, dry Spanish-style rum suitable for cocktails or sipping.

Cartavio Solera 12 yr

Sweet, smooth and well-balanced profile. Prominent aromas of vanilla, caramel, cocoa, and dried fruits. A very soft and sweet entry with caramelized nuts, toasted wood, and dried orange peel. Viscous and rich with coffee and molasses on the palate, offering a slightly dry and warm finish.

Cartavio XO

Solera-aged rum (up to 18 years) known for its rich, smooth, and sweet profile of caramel, butterscotch, and oak. A dessert rum with a dark, syrupy, and nutty flavor.
