Juan Toscanini and his wife Maria Bianchi emigrated from Genoa, Italy and started their winery in 1908 in the Canelones region of the Río de la Plata, growing Tannat, Cabernet, and Merlot.

Tannat is the strain that has earned Uruguay recognition in the wine world and countless international awards. Originally from the areas of Madiran and Irouleguy (southwest France), it was introduced around 1870 by Basque immigrants, adapting like no other to the local soil and climate. Recognized for ripe, soft tannins and its seductive structure, Tannat from Uruguay is much plumper and more velvety than in its homeland in southwest France.

Coastal Canelones consists of low hills of loamy soils with calcareous formations. They are lands of good fertility and drainage, with the influence of the estuary creating an ideal setting for viticulture.

The southern wine district of Uruguay has a sunny, wetter climate than Argentina, with an average temperature and 900mm rainfall comparable to those of humid Bordeaux. Nights are cooled by Antarctic currents in the south Atlantic: evenings are breezy and cool, ripening slow and gradual. Acidity levels are attractively refreshing, one of the welcome distinctions of well-balanced Uruguayan wines.

Adagio Tannat

The Adagio boasts a rich olfactory tapestry of spices, ripe fruits, chocolate, vanilla, and coffee hints from the oak. It greets the palate with a robust structure, smooth introduction, and a lingering velvety finish.

Note: Adagio is crafted exclusively in standout vintage years.
